The Indian travel industry had hoped that leisure travel will revive in the summer months; however, this hope has now been dashed. The second wave of the pandemic has dealt India’s travel and tourism industry a huge blow. There is no sureness yet as to when the restrictions will ease and this is only adding to the pain for the industry that somehow survived 2020.
The rollout of vaccines in January did bring back the confidence of travelers in India. However, the optimism was short-lived, as the second wave spread across the globe at a faster pace than expected. The last few weeks have been tough for the travel and tourism sector of India. The second wave of COVID-19, which is causing more daily infections than the first wave, has already taken a toll on the recovery process of the travel sector, especially the airline companies.
